An international touring artist, with 15 years teaching experience within the fields of Popular Music and Jazz styles, TheSingingIntrovert teacher, Zara McFarlane, is passionate about teaching singing in a holistic way to encourage personal development, self-confidence, self-expression and fun.


Eloquent and provocative singer-songwriter, Zara McFarlane, is of the UK’s Black British foremost Jazz Vocalists.

With three critically acclaimed albums to her name and multiple award wins such as:-

a MOBO Award, an Urban Music Award and 2 Jazz FM Awards, she has a stronghold on the British Jazz vocal scene.

Zara has taught in many different educational settings. Most recently teaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the Performing Arts and Creative Enterprise undergraduate degree course. She has also taught at various Music Hubs including Southwark, Newham and Barking and Dagenham as well as through the organisations Tomorrow’s Warriors and Serious throughout UK, Europe and internationally. She has also been invited to conduct workshops sharing her career experience at various music colleges and conservatoires such as BIMM and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.


Zara studied Musical Theatre at BRIT School of Performing Arts, achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Popular Music Performance at what is now BIMM and holds a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies attained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

As well as touring with her own band, Zara has performed with many artists including the likes of godfather of South African jazz Hugh Masekela; jazz sensations Gregory Porter, Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, pop acts; Noah and the Whale, The Feeling and featured on US House legend Louie Vega’s Grammy nominated album "Starring XXVIII.”

Zara continues to record and perform internationally.
